APRIL 2015

All That Jazz with 4+1

Following their successful venture into the music scene with Finnegan’s Wake last October, the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust is proud to present a Jazz Night, with wonderful Chippenham traditional jazz band 4 + 1.
The event will be at the Woodlands Social Club Calne SN11 0JX, on Friday 24th April, beginning at 8:00pm. Tickets will be £8 and may be bought in advance from the Woodlands Club, on the door, or booked in advance from Richard on 07899 903 344. A bar will be available in the hall and there is local parking.
4 + 1 specialises in happy, foot tapping music mainly from the popular traditional jazz genre, but can also adapt to provide dance music. Their repertoire includes: It had to be You, Spanish Eyes, Over the Rainbow and My Charmaine.
The Band was created in the early 90s and the line-up is now: Doug Ellis - trombone, Alan Stackman - guitar and banjo, Stef Hardy - drums, Ron Brown - bass guitar, plus + 1 Rob Jones - clarinet and saxophone.
Rob Jones is the spokesman of the band and he is also the conductor of the Chippenham Male Voice Choir, when his dry, gentle humour is much appreciated by audiences.
Calne resident, Richard Mason, a member of the organising committee said, “We are really looking forward to a fantastic evening courtesy of the excellent 4 + 1 Jazz Band. This is the second music event we have arranged, and if it is anything like as successful as Finnegan’s Wake, it will really enhance the Trust’s fund raising efforts. All money raised will be used locally to help restore and promote the Wilts & Berks Canal.”

New members and volunteers are always welcome; see more information on the websites:
