FUNDRAISERS
are inviting people to share their antiques and collectables, in the
hope that it can help to bring a much larger piece of history back to
life.
The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust Antiques Roadshow is due to be held at Melksham Conservative Club on Saturday April 13.
The event, from 11am-3pm, will be attended by auctioneers Gordon Brockman and Richard Edmonds of The Chippenham Auction Rooms.
Residents can bring jewellery, sports memorabilia, books, coins, vases,
silverware, paintings, postcards and other property to be valued, for
just £1 per item.
All profits will support the local restoration of the waterway.
Event organiser Val Melville is
a member of the Melksham, Chippenham & Calne branch of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust.
She said: “This is the first time we have organised such an event but we hope it will be a huge success.
“Gordon kindly supported the charity’s October auction which raised
almost £2,000, so we hope his warm and entertaining manner will attract
lots of interest this time too.
“The venue has rear access from the Church Street car park, which
should make it easier for anyone wanting to bring large or heavy items,
and there will also be a bar available for those wanting to socialise
afterwards.
“The event should be lots of
fun, particularly if someone discovers their small trinket is actually worth a small fortune!”
The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust will have a digital display and other
publicity material, as well as plenty of membership leaflets

The charity’s next big fundraising event is the annual sponsored walk
along the canal from Chippenham to Lacock, on Bank Holiday Monday May
6, leaving the Buttercross at 10.30am
