Melksham Food and River Festival 2017

Do you enjoy good local food? Ales and cider?  Listening to live music?  Relaxing on or near a beautiful waterway?

Then Melksham Food and River Festival is the perfect event for you!  The King George V Park will be the venue for this fun-filled weekend each day from 10.30am. To find out more about the Festival events and competitions or book a stall, go to the Festival’s new web site melkshamfoodandriverfestival.co.uk and follow the links.

Saturday 2nd September:
We have retained the opportunity to Try Canoeing (by signing up at the Adventure Centre in advance) or take a boat trip to see the wildlife on the river close up. But in addition the Committee is planning to have hot food drinks and a bar open on the field. Plus demonstrations and displays are also planned, together with an early evening concert (we hope to persuade the Military Wives Choir to support this part of the Festival Programme) to make Saturday a real fun, but different day.

For the really adventurous why not enter a team for the raft race (race to be run subject to having suitable river conditions). This event, now in its second year, is planned to enable you to raise money for your charity of choice by getting yourselves sponsored. This year Foxhangers Boat Builders are sponsoring the raft race and have donated £100 for each category (junior and senior) plus medals for the winning teams in each category.  Further details, rules and entry form are available on this web site.

Sunday 3rd September
This is the day of the main event, with over 60 stalls, 40 of which are food and drink stalls selling a range of local products and 8 are hot food suppliers. Music this year will be provided by The Decibelles, a popular local duo.

Also on Sunday, in addition to the boat trips and Try Canoeing, there will be demonstrations by Bradford-on-Avon Diving Club, the Fire Service Water Rescue Team and Wiltshire Youth Canoe Club.   It is also hoped to have a flotilla of steam motor powered boats and yachts for visitors to enjoy.

There will be plenty for the children too, with face painting, a bouncy castle and fairground attractions, along with a celebrity appearance of Frankie the Canal Horse.

Perhaps the most intriguing event of the day will be the Chilli Eating Competition! This contest is not for the faint-hearted, but it does make a great spectator sport, as 12 competitors confront and try to consume the hottest chillies.
